(GREATER PHILA.) Brain fitness practical tips.  The struggle to remember names or simply organizing information during stressful times is a universal complaint for people that can happen at various ages. Brandywine Living decided to offer an educational program for the community where individuals can learn the science behind memory and discover new ways to stretch your minds to support your everyday lives. The new program, called Sharper Minds, is facilitated by their dedicated Neuropsychologist Dr. Jason Van Steenburgh, Ph.D.

The first session, “Can’t Remember Names? Practical Tips for Memory & Recall,” was hosted at Brandywine Living Dresher Estates and Upper Providence. The evening started with refreshments before opening up to an interactive lecture with Dr. Jason Van Steenburgh. A key part of the evening was working on engaging exercises that can be also tried at home.  The focus was sharing strategies on how to encode information and retrieve information to more successfully remember names, a skill that can be applied in everyday personal and professional life.

Dr. Jason Van Steenbergh, Ph.D. Neuropsychologist said:

“Knowing the attendees came away with practical tips that they will be able to use in everyday life experiences was great.  If even one tool sticks they will be reminded Sharper Minds was a positive experience!”

Those who participated met the new program, Sharper Minds, with enthusiasm.

“Informative event! Made me feel hopeful, giving me great tools on name recognition I can use in my career every day,” said an attendee.

“I enjoyed that Dr. Jason was able to make it understandable.  Being very direct with his words and language made it easy to follow for all the attendees,” remarked a male attendee.

Sharper Minds is an open to the public program that is currently being introduced at multiple Brandywine Living communities. Future topics will continue to focus on everyday solutions for common memory issues which will be presented by Brandywine Living’s team of dedicated Neuropsychologists.
