Linwood, NJ, March 27, 2017 – Helen Turner Turns 110 Supercentenarian. It’s no April Fools’ joke – on Saturday, April 1st, a resident of Brandywine Living at Brandall Estates will become a supercentenarian when she turns 110 years old.
A supercentenarian is an individual that lives to see their 110th birthday. It is a rare occurrence, with one in 1,000 centenarians reaching this age. Reports indicate that there are only 34 in the entire United States – Helen will be number 35!
Helen Turner was born on April 1st, 1907 in a rural area of Maryland, on a farm near Barclay. She attended Columbia University, where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Education, and went on to finish at Maryland State Teachers College (now Towson University), graduating in 1924. She is their oldest living alumnus! After graduation, she spent 37 years as an elementary school teacher in Margate, NJ. She moved to Brandywine Living at Brandall Estates five years ago, and has made many new friends.
For her birthday, Helen has one wish – to dance with Ellen DeGeneres. She even made a video for her Facebook page, asking Ellen to come dance with her: “Hi Ellen, this is Helen Turner. I’m gonna have my 110th birthday on April 1st. How about coming and dancing with me?” The video has been shared, tweeted and sent hundreds of times. Local and regional news outlets are joining in the effort to make Helen’s wish come true.
Brandywine, along with Helen’s friends and family, have already been counting down the hours to her big day – visit Helen on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/HelenGTurner.
