Life at Brandywine: Friendship Starts in Loving Hearts

Sycamore Residents Max and Pat

“I’ll be fine here.”  Those were the words Pat, 78, said to her family as they got her settled into her new home at Brandywine Living at The Sycamore.  Almost immediately after entering the doors, Max, 83, the community’s unspoken Resident Ambassador, greeted Pat, took her under his wing and helped her get acquainted with life at The Sycamore.  Their first meeting quickly blossomed into a deep friendship.

These two friends  are both New Jersey natives; Pat was a middle school teacher (4th – 8th grade) for 25 years (Teaneck, NJ, Sickles, NJ and Knollwood School, Fair Haven, NJ) and Max was the proud owner of Grandma’s Bagels in Little Silver, NJ.

They spend almost all of their time dining together, attending each other’s religious services, and joining in the Escapades… for Life! programs.  Today, you can find Pat assisting the Escapades team with decorating for themed programs and Max, saddled up to the bar at happy hour and still greeting new residents as they come through the front doors.

Pat says, “A companionship at our age really keeps us going.  We have a real respect for each other and it helps that we just like each other.”
