Dresher, PA — In honor of National Bird Day on January 5th, 2022, Freida the therapy parrot enjoyed special attention during themed activities at Brandywine Living at Dresher Estates.
Freida is a 30 year old Senegal Parrot, a senior for her species. She can most often be seen on the shoulder of her caretaker and Escapades Producer, Rachel Kaufman. The parrot joined the senior living community in 2020 and Rachel is her third caregiver.
“She is a very smart, sweet and vocal parrot. She loves the residents and being pet.” Rachel commented. “She lives at the community but comes home with me if I am off for a few days.”
Although everyday is “Bird Day” thanks to Freida, residents and team members connected over bird trivia and made edible bird feeders while listening to a bird themed playlist.
One of Freida’s favorite residents is Meyer who has lived at the community since 2019. He visits her everyday with crackers and fruit.
A special highlight was a collection of bird photography shared by Larry Hughes, the community’s Environmental Services Director. His passion for bird photography spans seven years with his two sons. Their goal is to photograph all the birds in North America with 500 already finished and printed in books.
