Life at Brandywine: A Friendship Stitched In Time

“Happiness is like a butterfly,
The more you chase it, the more it eludes you;
But if you turn your attention to other things,
It will come and sit softly on your shoulder.”

Iris standing with Butterfly Cross Stitch ArtIris Bing, 84, and Joan Bisogno, 85, are both residents of Brandywine Living at Huntington Terrace where they reconnected almost four years ago.

Iris is a needlepoint artist and her pieces have been showcased in countless exhibits; most recently, at the Half Hollow Hills Library in Dix Hills, New York in March, 2018.

Joan has admired Iris’s needlepoint art since they were teenagers.  Her son later bought her an original butterfly piece from Iris’ exhibit.  This piece meant a lot to her. Joan says, “I love this piece so very much because I love butterflies and it reminds me of my wonderful friendship with Iris.”  She cherished this piece so much; her new home at Brandywine wouldn’t be home without it.

As her son moved her belongings into her room, Iris recognized the needlepoint piece in his hands.  They’d lost touch over the years, but this butterfly piece reunited these two best friends. Iris adds, “I was so happy to see that my needlepoint continues to make Joan happy because she loves butterflies and will enjoy seeing it here at Brandywine.”

A cherished butterfly piece, stitched in time, was the cause of a sweet reunion between Iris and Joan.
