Alexandria Seniors Celebrate Like It’s 11776

Brandywine Living at Alexandria celebrates National Assisted Living Week with a historically themed community event.

Alexandria, VA — There’s a myth that George Washington didn’t chop down that cherry tree —Brandywine Living at Alexandria likes to think otherwise. In honor of all things George Washington and National Assisted Living Week 2019, they hosted “Celebrate Like It’s 1776” on Saturday, September 14, 2019.

The historically themed day featured a Cherry Dessert Contest that raised funds for the Alzheimer’s Association. Team members and the local community came together to showcase their best sweet creations highlighting the tiny fruit for a chance to be named the winner.

Guests voted with their “Washingtons” or “Benjamins” and the dessert that received the most funds won the contest. Jill, BAYADA Home Health Care Fitness Instructor, took home the golden cherries trophy with her “Cherry Yum-Yums” recipe featuring Kentucky Vanilla Bourbon.

After the dessert contest, guests enjoyed authentic period music by the Potomac Mandolin Ensemble.

“Brandywine Living at Alexandria had a successful National Assisted Living Week as we celebrated like it was 1776! Each day we learned a little more about history, had some laughs along the way and grew together as a family and community. It was nice to have such a fun event as we continue to have more and more neighbors in our local community,” commented Jennifer Soss, Brandywine Living Escapades Producer.

National Assisted Living Week’s mission is to provide a unique opportunity for communities to recognize the important role of assisted living in caring for America’s seniors.
