Dresher, PA — Brandywine Living at Dresher Estates hosted a Designer Bag Bingo on Saturday, September 14, 2019 during National Assisted Living Week. The afternoon of bingo benefitted the local non-profit Beat it Beads whose mission is to provide bracelets of hope to people battling cancer.
The community has been volunteering with Beat it Beads for sevens years and hosts three beading events a year where residents, team members and families come together to make about one hundred bracelets. But this year’s fundraiser held even greater significance as Dresher Estates honored a special member of their community.
“We have selected a cancer charity for our National Assisted Living Week fundraisers for the past several years and this year it was especially important and poignant as our Food Service Director, Jim Devenney, passed away in July 2019 after battling cancer for eleven years. He was gifted a bracelet from Beat it Beads and really liked the organization,” commented Rachel Kaufman, Escapades Producer of Brandywine Living at Dresher Estates who organized the event.
Attendees enjoyed ten rounds of bingo for a chance to win a designer purse by brands like Coach, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, and Longchamp. There was also a 50/50 and variety of raffle baskets.
Margie McClarin, founder of Beat it Beads commented, “When I drove in the parking lot of the Brandywine Living at Dresher Estates and saw everything laid out, my heart started beating with joy. I was so happy and appreciative that all this was for the Beat it Beads Organization. I enjoyed meeting everyone and sharing my story how the Beat it Beads got started. It was great seeing the designer bag bingo winners smiling faces and the raffle baskets filled with goodies.”
In addition to raising $1,882.00 for the organization, residents, guests and volunteers created seventy bracelets for Beat it Beads to be distributed to cancer patients at local hospitals.
“When Brandywine Living at Dresher Estates presented the check to me for $1,882.00, my eyes were filled with tears. I was so happy they chose to do this for the Beat it Beads Organization. I am so grateful to everyone that participated, words can’t explain how I feel. I know this will help get more beat it beads to patients when they hear they have cancer to know they can have the hope to can beat it,” explained Margie McClarin.
Brandywine Living at Dresher Estates plans to continue supporting Beat it Beads and already has an upcoming project scheduled.
“We are doing a community service project in October with 3rd graders from Temple Sinai Hebrew School. They will come over to bead with Margie and the residents of Brandywine Living,” exclaimed Rachel Kaufman.
Bingo rounds were generously sponsored by the following businesses: Home Helpers
Comfort Keepers, Visiting Angels Jenkintown, Smart Adaptive Clothing, Brightstar Care, Rothkoff Law Associates, Bayada Home Health Care, Lagos Island Grille, Katz Family Charitable Foundation, Abramson Senior Care, and Liberty Lutheran.
