In the News: How Sweet it is for Somerville Police: Happy Valentine’s Day, Officers

Somerville, NJ/ February 14, 2019/ Tapinto — Residents of Brandywine Living at Middlebrook Crossing in Bridgewater took a road trip yesterday to several police departments in neighboring towns to express their thanks to police for keeping them safe, delivering Valentine sweets at each of their stops.

Residents visited police in Somerville, Bridgewater, Middlesex, Bound Brook and Green Brook.

“It’s a difficult job to be a police officer and can be life-threatening at times. It puts our minds at ease to know we are as safe as we can be thanks to our first-responders,” said Nicole Luciano, director of Community Relations at the senior living community.

The visit to the Somerville police headquarters on South Bridge Street was near and dear to the heart of Brandywine resident Carolyn Anello, whose husband Johnny was on the job in Somerville during the 1960s.

“My husband was a police officer in Somerville, NJ for about 15 years and we worried about him night and day,: she said. “A lot of people take police enforcement for granted, but they’re our heroes. They deserve to be respected, appreciated and looked up to. They have their own families back at home worried about them.”

Brandywine residents delivered cookies, candy and their gratitude at each stop.

“We feel safe inside our community at Middlebrook Crossing and we feel safe outside of our community in Bridgewater and the surrounding areas. We appreciate the protection and safety these officers provide us with. It’s comforting, no matter what age,” said Brandywine resident Marian Ross.
