In The News: Princeton Alum, 76, Goes Back To School For Pickup Game

Princeton, NJ / June 3, 2019 / Princeton Patch — A 76-year-old Princeton resident, and Princeton alumnus, returned to the school on Friday to play a game of football as a part of alumni weekend. Sheldon Lynn Sutcliffe graduated from Princeton in 1965.

Past PU football players, from graduating classes ranging from the 1960’s to the 1990’s, joined up to play Sunday for the weekend, which saw about 25,000 alumni and their families.

Warm up began at noon, and the game kicked off at 1 p.m. The former Princeton Tigers players split up into orange and black shirts.

Brandywine Living Princeton sent Patch some photos and a video of Sutcliffe, a resident of theirs, around the field.

Sutcliffe’s orange team won, he said, according to Brandywine.

Sutcliffe has had an accomplished career in the energy industry, acting in such positions as CEO of EnergySolve LLC to General Counsel of the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee, Brandywine told Patch. Here’s what they had to say about his career:

Sheldon Lynn Sutcliffe served as Chief Executive Officer of EnergySolve LLC and EnergySolve Demand Response LLC. Mr. Sutcliffe served as President and Chief Executive Officer of several energy service companies since 1990. Since 1990, Mr. Sutcliffe served as President and Chief Executive Officer of SYCOM Corporation, which is the general partner of SYCOM LP.

From 1968 to 1977, Mr. Sutcliffe served as General Counsel of the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee, which had jurisdiction over all electric and gas utility issues. Mr. Sutcliffe left the Commerce Committee to become one of the founding partners of Van Ness, Feldman, Sutcliffe & Curtis, P.C., a law firm nationally recognized for its expertise in energy law and policy.

Mr. Sutcliffe participated in this law firm until 1990. His expertise includes a wide range of legislative, regulatory, contractual, financial and developmental issues associated with the energy industry.

From 1994 to 1996, Mr. Sutcliffe served as President of the National Association of Energy Services Companies (NAESCO), and was a member of the Energy and Transportation Task Force of the President’s Council on Sustainability since 1996. Mr. Sutcliffe has over 24 years of experience in the energy services industry. Mr. Sutcliffe expertise includes a wide range of business, legislative, regulatory, contractual, and financial issues associated with the energy and environment industries.

Mr. Sutcliffe serves as Vice Chairman of the Distributed Power Coalition of America (DPCA). He serves as Chairman and Director of EnergySolve LLC. Mr. Sutcliffe serves on the Energy Efficiency Committee of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities’ Clean Energy Council and the Energy Futures Coalition funded by the Turner Foundation and served as President of the National Association of Energy Service for 2006. He received the Charles Caldwell Memorial trophy in football.

He earned his JD degree from the University of Washington School of Law where he was the Editor-in-chief of the law review and Order of the Coif. Mr. Sutcliffe is a magna cum laude graduate of Princeton University where he earned a BA degree in History.
