Little Neck, NY — After two months of planning, Brandywine Living at The Savoy celebrated The Longest Day on June 22, 2021 to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s disease.
The Longest Day, honored on the summer solstice, is the Alzheimer’s Association largest fundraising day of the year. Participants from around the world spread awareness and raise funds for a cure.
Team members of Brandywine Living collected donations for themed items leading up to The Longest Day. Featured items included “Peace, Love & Cure” t-shirts which sold out prior to the event and ”Seeds of Hope” potted plants, hanging plants and seeds. Additionally, one lucky winner won a “Summer’s Here” raffle gift basket filled with summer essentials.
The Longest Day activities for residents consisted of Fun, Fit & Fabulous exercises, Lifelong Learning class, outdoor entertainment and summer treats. Each activity featured a chance for residents to win a sold out t-shirt.
To raise additional funds, the luxury senior living community partnered with their local Chipotle for “Eat for A Change” in the evening. The local community was invited to eat at Chipotle were a percentage from purchases were donated to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Over $400 was raised for the Alzheimer’s Association so far and Brandywine Living at The Savoy will be continuing their fundraising efforts until October 22, 2021 with the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. You can support their cause by visiting www.alz.org and making a donation to the “Brandystars” team.
“Alzheimer’s disease isn’t stopping, so neither are we,” commented Donna Lapidus, Escapades Producer, who planned The Longest Day activities alongside Amy Schiller, Director of Community Relations.
