Mahwah, NJ — A furry four-legged scene unfolded on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Brandywine Living at Mahwah as families gathered in hopes of their pooch being named royalty.
The Canine King and Queen of Brandywine Contest to benefit the Real Dog Rescue was inspired by the rescue’s recent office opening next to Brandywine Living at Mahwah. The event was a perfect way for the new neighbors to connect during National Assisted Living Week 2019, whose mission is to provide a unique opportunity for communities to recognize the important role of assisted living in caring for America’s seniors.
“We just love it when our dogs and puppies help to spread joy in our community, and we shared that joy with our good friends at Brandywine Living at Mahwah. The Canine King and Queen of Brandywine were crowned and the runners up got lots of consolation cuddles. It was a great day for all. Heartfelt thanks to our Brandywine neighbors for hosting us and raising money and supplies to benefit Real Dog Rescue,” commented the Real Dog Rescue.
Contestants donated funds or food to the rescue for an opportunity to strut their stuff in front of a panel of resident judges and the community seniors. All contest entries were also given a chance to win a bark-tastic basket.
After the contest, adoptable dogs and puppies from Real Dog Rescue visited with seniors throughout the community.
Megan Minutolo, Brandywine Living Director of Community Relations exclaimed, “This event was a huge success! Our residents were beyond happy to cuddle up with all the cute pups from Real Dog Rescue and they all really loved watching the pups strut their stuff for the Canine King and Queen of Brandywine Contest. They are still talking about it days later! On top of having fun we were able to raise almost $400 for the rescue. We look forward to collaborating on many more events with our great neighbors at Real Dog Rescue.”
