Senior Living Community Creatively Raises Funds for Local Children

Rachel Kaufman Presents Donation to Cradles to Crayons

Dresher, PA — In honor of National Assisted Living Week, Brandywine Living at Dresher Estates hosted a Zoom Raffle Drawing for the Cradles to Crayons Philadelphia Chapter.

Cradles to Crayons is dedicated to helping children living in poverty by providing basic necessities that help them gain confidence and stay comfortable every day. The city of Philadelphia is the nation’s poorest big city with more than 300,000 children living in poverty.

“After ten years of organizing National Assisted Living Week Events, I was faced with new challenges due to Covid-19,” commented Rachel Kaufman, Escapades Producer. “Giving back to the community has always been something that our seniors and team members have been passionate about, so we  brainstormed to creatively come up with a a contactless way to give back that was still meaningful and was safe for everyone involved. ”

Brandywine Living at Dresher Estates organized a contactless “stuff the bus” drive and Zoom Raffle Drawing. Raffle prizes included three themed prize packages centered around high end salon tools and popular electronics including an iPad. Tickets were purchased digitally and placed into selected baskets on their behalf. Although joining the Zoom was not required to collect the prizes, twenty people participated remotely in the live Zoom drawing.

Additionally, the senior living community had a piggy bank that you could “feed” with loose change. A clever way to raise additional funds while supporting the recent change shortage.

The Brandywine bus filled with clothes, winter coats, boots, pajamas, toys, books and diapers were delivered along with a check for $1850 to Michal Smith, Executive Director of Cradles To Crayons, during their Big Give Event on September 26th, which featured a matching donation that doubled their donation.

National Assisted Living Week is observed every September to provide a unique opportunity for families and the community to recognize the vital role of senior living communities in caring for America’s seniors.
