On May 29, 2019, America celebrated the 26th annual National Senior Health and Fitness Day. While Brandywine Living at Longwood encourages an active lifestyle daily, celebrating National Senior Health and Fitness Day brought a new level of excitement to the community. The entire day was planned around fitness and wellness activities that engaged all levels of fitness.
“National Senior Health and Fitness Day is a wonderful opportunity to promote an active lifestyle for seniors in our community. By adapting activities such as seated exercise class and chair dancing, all are able to participate,” said Kelly Shoemaker, Director of Community Relations, Brandywine Living at Longwood.
The first exercise of the day featured a Fun, Fit, and Fabulous class, hosted by Ageless Exercise, to get everyone warmed up. Afterward, Rehab 1 hosted a wellness event that tested balance, safe driving, strength training and gave feedback for improvement at each wellness station.
Participants retired to the Brandywine Living Victoria Garden Club House for a healthy and delicious lunch in the afternoon before engaging in Chair Tai Chi with Chiventure and Chair Dancing hosted by Rehab 1.
“Fitness Day was a great time! I am fortunate that Brandywine Living offers me opportunities to maintain an active lifestyle,” commented Lillian Counsill, resident of Brandywine Living at Longwood.
As a bonus to the full day of fitness programs, Mobility City offered complimentary wheelchair and walker cleaning to residents and attendees.
Brandywine Living at Longwood looks forward to celebrating National Senior Health and Fitness Day next spring. For information on participating in 2020, please contact Brandywine Living at Longwood at 484-734-6200.
