Brandywine Living at Potomac welcomed three Ukrainian guest speakers to their senior living community on March 2, 2022. The speakers engaged with residents during an educational roundtable discussion on current affairs in the country and its rich history.
Yuriy Pylypchak, clinical and pastoral chaplain employed at Shady Grove Medical Center, presented the history of the country alongside his wife Iryna, who runs a non-profit dedicated to helping Ukrainian children.
Eliseo Lujan, a member of the Rockville Rotary Club and veteran, educated residents on the country’s current situation and answered questions about the conflict with Russia.
He is also retired from the Defense Intelligence Agency and served time monitoring and interpreting military communications of the Soviet Union.
Both families have been receiving personal updates on what’s happening on the ground in Ukraine from relatives in the country.
“Many of our residents are very in-tuned to politics and world news. It was extremely powerful to hear the stories of what is happening in Ukraine and how the Ukrainian people are standing up for their country from people with close ties,” commented Andrew Klansek, Brandywine Living Director of Community Relations.
