Alexandria, VA — Brandywine Living at Alexandria was excited to join the Annual Scottish Walk Parade for its 50th Anniversary Weekend.
The annual parade features a weekend of Scottish heritage festivities in celebration of the holiday season and the town’s history. Yearly highlights include dozens of Scottish clans dressed in tartans, pipe and drum players, themed refreshment vendors and special events all weekend.
Residents of the community have been participating in the parade since its Grand Opening in 2018 but it was canceled last year due to the pandemic.
“I rarely wake up earlier than 10:00am, but on parade day you can count on me to be up, ready and on the bus by 9:00am! This is the only thing I’ll take up for,” commented a resident of Brandywine Living at Alexandria.
Team members carry a community banner ahead of the “Brandywine Bus” in the procession while residents toss candy to parade attendees. As they make their way through Old Town, historic landmarks George Washington past home, beautiful decorations, porch parties and excited children are a common sight.
“I love traditions and this is one of the biggest traditions of the city. Families come from all over for the Scottish Walk Parade. It’s very “old school charm” as we participate in this parade in this historic town. We were all very happy that the parade returned this year. It was a great way to start the holiday season with merriment, love and each other,” commented Jennifer Soss, Brandywine Living Escapades Director.
