Seniors Sock Hop to Benefit Local Homeless

Shrewsbury, NJ — Brandywine Living at The Sycamore was “sock hopping” to collect sock donations for the local homeless during their “1950s Classic Car Show” on Saturday, September 14, 2019.

“Why socks? It’s the number one item the homeless population needs. The idea came together with inspiration from our resident, Joan Samperi, whose family owns a diner and helped us with the car show. It was an exciting way to end our National Assisted Living Week celebration while helping those less fortunate,” commented Catie Major, Brandywine Living Escapades Producer.

Sock hoppers arrived at the community to browse classic cars and enjoy hot dogs, french fries and root beer floats. Residents, families and team members set the scene by dressing the part as pink ladies and greasers. After enjoying lunch, everyone jived to the music of The Black Ties on the dance floor.

Socks collected during the event will be distributed to the homeless by a local church in Asbury Park.

The 1950s Classic Car Show was hosted during National Assisted Living Week 2019, “A Spark of Creativity”. National Assisted Living Week’s mission is to provide a unique opportunity for communities to recognize the important role of assisted living in caring for America’s seniors.
